Congratulations for this well thought and prepared presentation. As you have read representation of Muslims in Bollywood, here is questions for you. How do you read representation of super-rich Non-Residential Indian (NRI) Muslims in films like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Dir. Karan Johar)?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteIn Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Dir. Karan Johar), there is a different kind of representation of Muslim, the reason could be that they are rich Non-Residential Indians. On the other hand "My Name is Khan" and "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" kind of movies present the more realistic picture of western perspective towards Muslims rather than royal situations. Karaj Johar is famous for his elite class characters, and the focus was on "Love story" rather than any other issues.Except Urdu words, there was not any representation of Muslim identity.
well organized slides
ReplyDeleteMy question is..
Here you have given examples of many movies but why you have not taken the example of The Movie My name is Khan. How you read that movie in this concept?
Good suggestion, in "My Name is Khan" also the Muslim character suffers a lot because of having Islamic identity. The same concept I have explained in my presentation. But the main point of my presentation was 'the representation of Islamic identity' rather than 'struggle', so that movie would not able to give justice to my topic.
